Meals
Our responsibilities
- Meal times. If your dog needs to be fed during a visit, let us know. At Happy Dogs, dogs are fed individually. Breakfast is served between 7 and 8:30am, lunch between 11:30am and 1:00pm, and dinner between 5pm and 6pm.
- Refeeding. If your dog doesn’t eat, we’ll try again a few hours later. If he or she still doesn’t eat at that time, we’ll skip the meal. Note that we always throw out uneaten or partially eaten food to avoid risk of food going bad.
- Default boarding feeding. Unless you tell us otherwise, if your dog checks in after 8am or after 6pm, we will assume that you have already fed your dog at home. As such, no breakfast or dinner, as the case may be, will be fed to your dog. Likewise, if your dog checks in before 8am or before 6pm, our default is to feed him or her breakfast or dinner.
- Bowls. We provide our own bowls for feeding your dog.
- Food storage for daycare. If you are a regular daycare user on a monthly subscription, we can store food in the retail bag for your dog.
- Refrigerator available. We always keep fresh food in our fridge.
- Backup food for boarding dogs. If we run out of food for your dog, we will feed him or her from our stash of house food (Natural Balance wet food or kibble) and add the charge to your account. Note this isn’t ideal as many dogs have sensitive stomachs, and a short-term change in diet can result in diarrhea or vomiting.
- Uneaten meals. We always throw out uneaten or partially eaten meals to avoid risk of food going bad.
- Water available at all times. We always have bowls of water around the dog run for the dogs to drink from that we refresh constantly throughout the day.
Your responsibilities
- Preparing meals. You should package your dog's kibbles in individual meal-size portions in ziploc bags, and always labeled with the dog's name and meal time. Wet food can be provided in cans. If there is no label, we charge a $3 "no label" fee.
- Boarding penalty charge. There is a $10 per day penalty for failure to provide pre-packaged food, as we really want to discourage this practice.
- Food packaging. Your food packaging should always be disposable as we cannot always wash or return bowls or containers. Note that we will not accept any bowls or containers made of glass.
- Bringing in food. Make sure we have all meals needed for your dog’s visit.
- Medication. Medications should be given to us in the original package from the vet with detailed instructions.
- Supplements. Include any dietary supplements with meals in the individual portioned ziploc bags.
