Pick-ups and drop-offs
Our responsibilities
- Daycare visits. Home pick-ups and drop-offs are available for daycare visits for members within a short walk from our location, usually within 12 minutes by foot, and with doorman, lockbox, or keypad access.
- Walking with safety slip leash. We'll walk your dog for pick-up and drop-off with your dog's leash/harness plus a (slack) slip leash for safety.
- Your dog’s leash/harness. When dropping off your dog, we will hang the leash/harness on a hook on the back of or nearby your front door if available, or on the inside front door handle otherwise. We'll leave the collar on. (If your dog wears a jacket when it’s cold, we’ll put it on as needed, and will leave it on the back of the front door or kitchen counter when dropping off.)
- Lights. We will always turn on the main lights nearest the front door (since dogs can’t see in the dark).
- Water bowls. If you leave a water bowl out at home, we’ll refill it with fresh water for your dog.
- Front door lock. We will always close your front door securely -- please make sure it is set to lock by itself when closed.
- Safety. As always, dog safety comes first. If your dog displays leash aggression, territorial behavior, or other behavior that could put him or her or another dog being transported with him or her at risk, your dog will no longer be eligible for pick-ups and drop-offs.
- Not for boarding visits. Due to the one-off and extended nature of boarding visits, we don't do pick-ups nor drop-off for boarding visits.
Your responsibilities
- Booking. When booking your daycare visit on the member website, "update" the visit to add pick-ups and drop-offs as needed.
- Booking deadline. Book pick-ups by 7am the morning of, drop-offs by 5pm the afternoon of.
- Time windows. On weekdays, our pick-up window is between 8am to 11am, and our drop-off window is 5pm to 8pm. We can’t guarantee strict times within those windows. If your dog needs to come in or go home strictly by a certain time due to medical or other reasons, you’ll need to bring in or come get your dog yourself.
- Key from doorman. Make sure your doorman knows to let Happy Dogs staff get your apartment door key from the front desk.
- A second dog. Be aware we may pick up and drop off two dogs at a time, often but not necessarily in the same building. Make sure it's okay for another dog to come along for your dog's pick-up or drop-off, including into your apartment momentarily.
- Meals to bring to daycare. For any meal baggies/cans to bring to daycare, prep and label them as normal, and leave them clearly visible on a counter or table near the door.
- Meals at home. We strongly recommend that dinner be given at Happy Dogs before drop-off. If the dog must eat dinner at home, please prepare and label the food and we will set it down for your dog. We won't look for food in cupboards or measure and prepare the meal.
- Doors or crates. Email us if you want us to crate or isolate your dog in a specific room; otherwise we will let your dog loose inside the front door. It’s your responsibility to ensure any other doors are open/closed if needed.
- AC/heating. Email us if you want us to turn on/off the AC/heat when picking up or dropping off. Set the temperature so we can just flip the switch.
- Email not written notes. Do not leave written notes in your home for us. To protect your privacy, our staff will not look around in your home. Instead, always email us any instructions.
